GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids Public School officials say it is the only failure in 10 years of their system to keep people with criminal records from volunteering in the schools. The mother of a child volunteered most of last year at North Park Elementary although she was on the state's sex offender registry. She told 24 Hour News 8 that nobody ever talked to her about a criminal background check or gave her an application to fill out which would have led to a routine record check.
